Where dreams become heart attacks

You know the Nike Air Max Burger from a while ago but you don’t know something called “Schnitzels and things”, which consists of 1 veal, 1 pork and 2 chicken schnitzels, layered with 4 hash browns, 10 rashers of bacon and mozzarella, or a triple decker pizza “cake” (1 ham, 1 sausage, 1 pepperoni) layered with boneless buffalo chicken wings, topped with a ranch and buffalo sauce drizzle, and sprinkled with a confetti of real bacon bits. Or The Melt Challenge (you don’t want to know what this is, believe me.)
Seriously, check out Thisiswhyyourefat.com, a site truly dedicated to becoming obese in the most creative - and sometimes fatal - way possible.
What’s a Milky Way worth if it’s not deep fried, you ask?
Then this is your new home.
If other sites claim to feature “foodporn”, this is the one with midgets, cute little animals and red-haired Lumberjacks.

Science: so f***ing awesome.

This is so much fun, really. Maybe it is because I have read quiet some of the books by these scientists and authors back in the days when I still wanted to be a productive part of society, you know, before I started working in advertising, and now I can dance by listening to them.
Maybe it is because I have something going for sleazy vocoder-techno, I don’t know, my point is this should be running on MTV instead of Rock of Love 3 - Hookers have hearts too at any given day.

Politicians are hilarious

At least when Will Ferrell, Chevy Chase and Jim Carrey are involved.
Take notes, Bundestag.

“We just leave him in there as a reminder.”

I kind of forgot this lovely bit like 2 years ago here inside the womb of
beersandideas.com - and I don’t care. The only reason I post it now is that I want to
watch it one more time and I have no clou where I found it.
So the headline in this case is quiet telling.

Everything changes in 2010. Except: The Link Dump

What’s up, beer drinking, ideas producing nation? And by nation I mean Jake and Elias. Leaving 2009 behind us, much to my relief, here is the first Link Dump of 2010. Enjoy it while it lasts.

British copywriter Howard Fletcher has an awesome website. With words.

Really not much else.

strich.jpg

Feel like change? Get sacked. Check out what can happen when you get laid off and make the best of it. There’s life beyond this industry. Actually, only there. Lemonade.

strich.jpg
WTF of the day: First I found ten Euros on the streets. Then THESE fellas send me a big

package of spicery, sauces and awesome - to an address where I don’t live anymore for

over ten years.
So either these guys are really fucking late with their orders or somebody is

trying to be funny. Either way, as I certainly didn’t order anything from those fine people,

I just say Thank You for the chili-ketchup. Finally I come home and find a book in my mailbox, wrapped as a gift - with no sender. Unexpected. It’s like the universe finally is okay with the decisions I made lately. It’s about freaking time, universe.

We’ve come a long way.

Speaking about food Feran Adria practically has no home, always thinks, never rests, just cooks. Interview with a maniac. From 2006, but still inspiring. Via H.O.M.E. mag.

strich.jpg

Insane animation tests. Tracked with PFHoe Pro. Man, you got to be kidding me.

strich.jpg
Design case: The Holy Bible in a Moleskin version might just be what the Vatikan needs.

Via ADC.

What kills businesses: lazyness, mostly. Copying signs your death warrant afterwards.

We knew it. Great article over at Hadelsblatt.com.

strich.jpg
Handsome AND smart: Stefan Niggemeier interview at dctp.com. Also online: Sascha Lobo talks about himself. For proper 40 minutes. If you really hate your life, you’re welcome.

strich.jpg

Exactly two years ago I was sitting in a bar in Hamburg with a fellow copywriter thinking about how it was time to start a green agency. Of course we never realized it. Because we are idiots. Somebody else did. Fair enough.

You think winter in Berlin sucks? Try good ol’ Russia.

All the most incredible pictures of 2009 - and some more. The Big Picture at Boston.com.

strich.jpg

Copywriter Bob Bly makes a point by posting what he won’t and will do for free for you.
It may sound tacky but I know how he feels. I was recently asked to come up with a claim for a multi-million Euro Start Up, you know, as a favor, but only if I had nothing else to do at night.
Think about it, these people have so much money they could hire a team of scientists to grow a genetically enhanced leprechaun in a lab who then builds a massive claim out of solid gold yet they ask you to do it for free.

strich.jpg

Because it’s 2010 and things need to change - again - this is the guitar I’m going to buy. Isn’t she a pretty thing?

strich.jpg
To see what a man with his guitar can do in times of need check out this little film of a guy called Josh Wilson who lightened up the spirits of a lot of people while stuck at the Newark airport a few days ago. Nice one, Josh.

I discovered a really, realy, really cool German actress around Christmas, while sitting on the couch with my mom watching TV. I will not admit what kind of movie it was. Let’s just say my mom enjoyed it a lot. And Paula Kalenberg made it worth my while.

Finally: Thanks to Björn (Studio314), his girlfriend and all the good people of the Wiener Straße for an awesome New Years Eve. Good times. And thanks to Jochen for the Zimtschnecken.

Things that might be interesting (link dump)

Man this site looks abandoned. Seems like we started this for ourselves and that’s how this is gonna end. Anywhoo, trying to inject a little life into this walking corpse of a blog is me. Enjoy.

Pretty sweet song from German band Ms. John Soda HERE.

Samsung and Sprint launch eco-friendly green-phone, announce environmental efforts and donate 2$ of every sold copy to the Nature Conservancy’s Adopt an Acre program. I want one. Via GearLog.
strich.jpg

Nikon unveiles the world’s first point-and-shoot digital camera with a built-in digital projector in its body. It’s basically half awesome and half WTF. Could be a solution to all the kids playing crappy loud music with their cellphones in the subway (honestly, whoever came up with the idea to produce cellphones with build-in speakers needs to get punched in the throat). By Mademan.

Documentary 9 to 5 Days in Porn has an awesome website with a lot of footage. If you are a sad, creepy guy with no girlfriend (I know how you feel) go to the movies this weekend.
strich.jpg

Our favorite foody and booze-expert over at Beer & Nosh has something going for awkwardly en vogue German beer (obviously) and food (surprisingly). In San Francisco.
strich.jpg
If you feel bad because your life sucks or if you are looking for comedy material, go to F* my life and feel better immediately. Honestly, you can’t make stuff like this up, it’s too good.
strich.jpg
Fastcompany.com comes up with Six Products That Turn Everyday Chores Into Green Moments - and steal at least two ideas of mine in the process.
strich.jpg
Unbelievable: Randy Couture shouldn’t be competing with absolute top notch athletes at the age of 46. But he does. Simple as that. Still making it a science to pound somebodies face in. Man is an inspiration. Via Sports Illustrated.
strich.jpg
Brand-crush of the month: RVCA. If I liked this brand any more, I’d ask her out on a date.
Honestly, check out their site and learn how to act as a brand that talks to people. They are featuring and supporting several artists, musicians, surfers, fighters, writers, designers and what not, so you can enjoy tons of stuff while looking around - and then buy a shirt. Fair enough. “Erin Wasson, Martial arts, music, art, ping pong, good food….”, that about sums it up right.
It’s basically how I’d do it myself if I was in advertising. Wait, are you hiring, RVCA?

Bored to Death

How can Bored To Death not be the best TV-show this year (except that new seasons of Fringe, Dexter, The Office and 30Rock are coming up at the same time)? Still, can’t wait to see Jason Schwartzman and Ted Danson go at it September 2009 on HBO.

Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning.

As a copywriter, I’m always amazed, what can be delivered with those 24, 26 or how many letters your native alphabet uses, variables. And because I was raised by computers, while mommy earned money to pay the electricity bills, I have to feature

Flower™ makes the (virtual) world a better (and greener) place

Produced by the brave and exciting people at ThatGameCompany Flower™ takes us on a journey that a few writers already called “less of a computer game and more of a poem”. Says Playstation: “Flower™ lets you take control of the wind as you explore and navigate beautiful, lush environments using only the SIXAXIS motion controls. This is an interactive escape that takes you on an emotional journey like no other game you’ve ever experienced.” For everything I hear you kind of create your own soundtrack as well as you play (because of the unique way you play). After all Flower™ represents the insight of the industry that it’s time to come up with a wider, more creative range of games for all sorts of players. Learn more about the game, see footage about how it was done and hear what the developers have to say about it HERE. (Hint: You should def-o go there and watch the making-of. The general approach of the developers might be the most remarkable thing about this game after all.)
