RVCA BJ Penn vs. Phil Frost. Other stuff.

03.02.2010 | Stephan Schaefer | Art, Brands | 1 Comment

Supporting the fine arts like music, painting, high fashion and ass-kicking, California based clothing company RVCA presents their newest t-shirt design in style. Designed by New York über-artist Phil Frost it’s basically the first of it’s kind and shows the cross-over approach of the brand perfectly. And thanks to my sister in Sacramento, CA, I’m wearing it right now. Wowsies.

Tons of inspirational video material that makes you want to quit your job, move to California and spend your time with more usefull stuff like skateboarding, surfing, dancing, playing guitar, painting and training you find HERE.

Boros

Been to the Boros bunker last sunday. Haven’t been so impressed by art or architecure

in a long time. The bunker itself humbles you. And each room holds another surprise. It’s like a crazy-ass Disneyworld for art-lovers. Especially Olafur Eliasson’s work never ceases to amaze me. I’m not much of an art guy but this whole concept blew me away. Do yourself a favor and go there when in Berlin. Adman Boros managed to create a magical and inspiring place. Reservation is needed.

Julien Vallée

Here’s some of the work of Montreal based designer/art director Julien Vallée - and I just know that Jake will absolutely fall in love with his stuff. I don’t want to give too much away so
check out his brilliant site, his amazing short for Artv or the type he created while being guided by Stefan Sagmeister.

Art 2.0

I’m increasingsly amazed what new inventions and creativity 2.0-ism shoves our way. We all knoe Remixes and Mashups, but they also mature over time and here comes one that has so many connotations, implications and interactions, you actually need to be “old enough” to get them all. Enjoy the snipplet of things to come in the near future:

Tapout makes an artform look like exactly that

Seeing here is Robert Drysdale performing a beautiful Flying Guillotine followed by a Flying Armbar in a new Tapout commercial. I’m putting this up here especially for the writers of BZ who are a giant dump of FAIL.

Skate Germany

See a lovely bit about skateboarding in Hamburg and Berlin. And Gütersloh. Because - YES - one of the heroes of my youth, Claus Grabke, is featured as well with footage from now and then. It’s just plain awesome and it brings back good memories. Why the hell did I become an advertiser again?
Thanks a lot, VBS.TV.

Paul Gazzola’s Mirror Van

Says the australien artist: “A caravan covered with mirrors. A large reflective surface of its surroundings. The van as a metaphor for surveillance. Mirroring its environment and exposing the looks and gazes whilst the interior becomes an unknown and hidden core where the observations are held and considered. The surrounding space an awkward interplay where one never escapes being visible and monitored. The interior like a cave - totally blackened out and sparsely appointed. A very practical and functional sleeping zone inside a highly active exterior. A place of rest where one can hide from this heightened exposure.”

Pretty awesome stuff, I say. More at the artists blog.

Flower™ makes the (virtual) world a better (and greener) place

Produced by the brave and exciting people at ThatGameCompany Flower™ takes us on a journey that a few writers already called “less of a computer game and more of a poem”. Says Playstation: “Flower™ lets you take control of the wind as you explore and navigate beautiful, lush environments using only the SIXAXIS motion controls. This is an interactive escape that takes you on an emotional journey like no other game you’ve ever experienced.” For everything I hear you kind of create your own soundtrack as well as you play (because of the unique way you play). After all Flower™ represents the insight of the industry that it’s time to come up with a wider, more creative range of games for all sorts of players. Learn more about the game, see footage about how it was done and hear what the developers have to say about it HERE. (Hint: You should def-o go there and watch the making-of. The general approach of the developers might be the most remarkable thing about this game after all.)
